Shorts for Curves in Multiples

I have discovered a great pants pattern for women with hips as you can see from the photo how well it curves to my shape.

It is Vogue 7881 in Claire Shaeffer's Custom Couture collection.

There are lots and lots of instructions for those who want to do couture sewing.  I opted for the darts instead of easing and I set the zipper the way I usually do, not the way she instructs.  But the fit is great!

The only drawback is these pants have no pockets.  I guess ladies who wear couture clothing carry purses all the time.  Anyway, I originally added in-seam side pockets, but sewed them out because they added too much bulk.  I did add a back pocket so I could carry my cell phone easily.

Here is the inner waistband.

I like to use bright quilting fabrics as facings and pocket linings : )  Makes them fun to wear!

Since these were so light colored, the band needed to be somewhat subdued.  Hope you can see the quilting fabric in there.

Also created this pair of off-white ones in a lightweight stretch twill.  Amazing that my figure has nearly completely transformed since last summer and all new shorts are now in order.  Perhaps its that birthday with a "0" in it coming this summer...

And I just had to include my muslin - it is made from cotton duck from - I was considering this as curtains.  When we decided against that use, the fabric was fair game for shorts!  They are rather fun!

Have you sewn shorts for summer yet?
Happy Creating everyone!

  1. They turned out great! I have yet to sew a successful pair of pants or shorts, only leggings. I was told recently that I lave high hips. I may check out this pattern. They always have great instructions included.

Thanks for taking time to leave a comment - it makes my day!
