Ahhh, the feeling of being caught up! Yesterday I spent the entire day working on 2 blocks, the first is pictured above. It is amazing that I can create something from practically nothing, but following someone else’s directions is difficult!
This block is called the Beacon Lights block and a tutorial can be found here. In the directions, it says to make squares and cut twice diagonally to get the triangles. I thought I’d be smart and use the new trick I’d learned from a Pat Sloan (Missouri Quilt Co) video to achieve the same thing.
So I matched the 2 squares of fabric, right sides together and sewed around the 4 straight edges. Then I sliced them twice diagonally as shown here.
I got the right number of triangles, but they were NOT the correct angles for the rest of the Beacon Light tutorial directions!
Another opportunity to do art – and get something different than I first thought! Here’s what I eventually did with those triangles. Perhaps they can be used in the final quilt after all 12 Blocks of the Month are done!
The second block I did for the Block of the Month is the Pinwheel block.
