Since I have been collecting those slim 1/2″ pieces of fabric one usually throws away, I have accumulated quite a stack. What I have been doing before now is pin weaving, resulting in appliqué shapes, mug rugs & pot holders, and new placemats.
This week I started stripping.
Have you stripped lately? Hehe
Since I had more green strips than any other color, I did this one first. I took a scrap piece of batiked fabric that was mediocre as a batik, cut it about 12″ wide. Then I began sewing the strips on with only one pass. I figure that when I add the batting and backing, I will quilt them by going over the strip a second time.
Next I went to blue, but not having the same quantity of blue strips as green ones, I gradually added in purple strips for subtle gradation.
Then I realized I had a large number of pale-to-neutral strips. They are sewn onto muslin. This piece is about 22″ wide. I wanted to have a larger piece for variety for when I actually start cutting these fabrics up.
Lastly I did this set of hot red strips on an aqua background. It was hard to adjust the photo to show the intensity of the two colors.
The next step is to figure out what stripped pattern I will use with these fabrics.
Any suggestions? I’d love to hear!
