In the most recent issue of Art Quilting Studio, there is an article by Laura Wasilowski using fused fabric and embroidery in quilt design. Her colors were quite inspiring! Since I had acquired some beautiful hand dyed fabrics from Melody Johnson, I decided to try my hand at fusing and embroidery just for fun.
This is my first attempt at composing a quilt with fusing. This piece is about 8″ x 10″ and was so simple it almost feels like I’m cheating! I like the bright colors – the background is even fabric I dyed! All the other is fabric from Melody – thank you again! While I like the bright floss, I would like to try variegated floss. I wasn’t hip on any of the new DMC multi colors – I wanted true variegated like blue with lime and a touch of hot pink or magenta, lime and yellow, not just shades of the same hue.
So I bought some white strands of DMC floss to hand dye so I can have variegated thread to give it a try. Laura sells beautiful hand dyed thread on her website and I may have to get some of that if mine doesn’t come out well. I just have to play first! I’ll keep you posted!
