Looking through the Gwen & Freddy books, I am intrigued by house quilts. They seem like easy piecing and have plenty of room for variety.
So I gathered a selection on bright fun prints from my stash and began slicing strips of various widths from 1.5″ to 3″ or so.
I hung them on a clothes drying rack for easy access right by my sewing table.
Then I began just piecing them together to get houses. I went back later and added the rooftops. As you can see from the top picture in this post, I put houses around princesses and also some cats I had in fabrics.
I also discovered the joy of making trees! So here is what I have towards my house quilt at the end of one day. Kind of a neat little village starting to appear!
