After finishing the sewing on my first quilt, I am applying finishing touches by hand stitching in various places on the quilt. I do this at night when with my sweet husband. Yesterday I decided to dig into my scrap pile and so I pulled it all out and threw it on my sewing table.
I just got a copy of Gwen Marston’s Liberated Quiltmaking 2 as well as Freddy and Gwen Collaborate Again and was truly inspired by the vivid colors in their quilts. One thing Gwen said in her Liberated book was that for a scrap quilt to look interesting and different, the key is to use SCRAPS.
After an hour or so of just playing, here is what I started. It was great fun and I made many “strata” as Gwen calls them – sewn strips that can later be cut into various other things or used as is. Then yesterday in the mail I got the 50 Kaffe Fasset 5″ squares I ordered on eBay. Oh, I know this will be good!
So this morning, I excitedly came back up to my Realm and worked on squaring and assembling the strips. Here is where I am today – I need to add the solid hot pink border inside the Kaffe Fasset squares that comprise the outer edge. I am LOVING the bright colors during this cold, gray wintertime! I don’t really have much of an idea for a backing, but it will be wild for sure : )
