I was inspired by a circle quilt I saw recently. So I pulled out my Vivacious Curvy Quilts book by Diane Hire and got to work. Fortunately, fabric stores were having great sales this past week and I purchased the materials I wanted for this quilt during that time! I previously showed the fabrics here.
I cut the fabrics into 9″ squares so I could use my fat quarters to their fullest extent. I layered the squares and cut all of them into the 3 curvy sections, then completely mixed them up and sewed. This part was great fun! I have done quilts where you stack 4 fabric blocks, cut, shuffle, & sew. They are fine – but I wanted something much more random. As you can see from the first 4 blocks, random is what I am getting! Yay!
I was going for a slightly old fashioned, blended look. I want to use this on a bed, so I’m not as concerned about contrast areas. However, being an artist, I did take the photo to b&w to see the values & I will rearrange the blocks accordingly : )
