One of my favorite sayings. This piece was inspired by an article in the latest Art Quilting Studio magazine. I did a drawing on muslin with fine black marker, then loosely painted with watercolors, using painters tape to mask some areas – an idea I will employ again. That is why the yellow flowers are so vibrant (and not green!). Once dry, I put batting & backing on and just began playing with different machine embroidery colors as I sewed.
The one thing I learned is that I like doing free motion on the BACK of the quilt so I don’t have to be so precise in covering my doodling! Using a template or drawing on the back, doing the free motion work, then putting the backing on it is my preferred method. More to come!
