(If you know who designed this block, please leave a comment so I can credit accordingly.)
Here’s another view so you can see some of the piecing. Once I got the hang of it, it’s very addictive.
So, since it is April, I needed to make some more Birthday placemats since we have 5 – FIVE – 5 birthdays to celebrate this month! All the adult kids and grandkids come over monthly for a meal and to catch up and each month we celebrate any birthdays. We used to do tiara’s for the girls, but the boys didn’t like wearing the crown, so we switched to the Birthday Placemats : ) Click here to see the others.
So the thinking goes like this: make some boy-themed placemats with paper piecing!
So I go to JoAnn’s and find several books on clearance One of them was “100 Paper Pieced Quilt Blocks” by Linda Causee. Jackpot! It has a whole section of travel blocks – car, truck, plane, helicopter, boat, etc.
I picked out the airplane and got started. After a little bit I got this. Oops.
I was concentrating so hard on the design, I totally missed the color changes for the wings of the plane! Arghhh!
Time to regroup.
I liked the idea of a plane. So I traced around the edge of the design and decided to do an applique instead. Forgot to use stabilizer, so it’s a little loose in areas. Oh well.
Quilted the sky to look like wind, added the plane, added buildings, and this is the final piece:
I think the boys will like it : )
