First up is this piecing of half-square triangles. I don’t usually do much with solids, but I saw this idea somewhere on the web and just had to sit down and figure it out. After putting this much together, this will be a pillow, not a quilt, so I can work on chevrons…
This is the lap sized modern quilt I have been working on. I finally got the back finished so I’m hoping to get it all pinned together and ready for quilting in the next few days. My current idea is boxes quilted over these, not exactly following these lines. Ideas welcome!
Since I have been doing straight lines and squares for a while, I just had to break out of that! Yesterday when clearing a stack of stuff in one corner of my sewing space, I found my 15 Minutes of Play book by Victoria Findlay Wolfe. The scrap bag was getting full to overflowing, so I dumped it out and decided to not only free-piece, but to quilt as I went.
Here’s the back. Interesting doing this with free piecing, or as she calls it, “made fabric.” I got into a bind a few times and had to fold under edges and sew on top to make it work. Oh well. This was a fun exercise, but it will be an orphan block for a while because I have absolutely zero idea what to do with it – yet!
A close up : )
I am new to the WIP Wednesday site – what a fun quilt party! You can see I’ve added the button in the sidebar to the right. Visit there and see some great quilting blogs!
